During early decades of the twentieth century the number of sanatoriums increased fast, due to one of the worst deseases of that time: tuberculosis. A part from chemical and surgical therapies, when available, a long stay in proper environments relieved those patients from their symptoms.
In those places, calm, air pureness, physical conditions, proper food, could decrease the death rate of many thousands of people every year.
All services needed were built inside the area. Half century of abandonment has left irreversible traces of decay. Some buildings are heavily damaged, others are still in decent conditions. Walking around one could see various representative locations, most of them not easily recognisable: a laundry, laboratories, a church, the library, a cinema, entertainment or meeting places, health pavilions, and so on.
Another big edifice, in front of which a very nice façade is admirable, was destined to the cure of children. Not much is still present inside, apart from some mattresses, beds, wardrobs and rags.
An ample view is visible from the top, from which is possible to see forests, mountains, the valley and, sad to say, traces of decay of the surrounding beautiful area.
