Porto Marghera, a name inherited by the military fort. Watching such an industrialised area near one of the best cities in the world make us think about the decision to built it there. To understand that, we must go back in the Twenties, when it was requested to enlarge the harbour and the exchange of goods in the region.
Big portions of the territory were reserved to the industrial site. Soon the fist big companies grew in the area: Agip, Breda, Sava, Vetrococke, Montecatini, Ilva, etc. The site developed during years, apart a stop during the Second World War.
Of some companies it's today possible to observe just the ruins. Especially Sava (Società Anonima Veneta Alluminio), then Alumix, of which just the skeleton remains, and the big power plant, full of graffitis and asbestos. It's a huge amount of asbestos, with a camping site just some hundred meters far and the beautiful city just opposite the coast.
